RIP Mike Curtis
Today, Friday 14th January, the funeral of former Fife AC member Mike Curtis takes place in Kirkby Lonsdale.
Mike was a FAC stalwart representing the club in the late 1970’s and 1980’s. One of Mike’s best XC runs came at the Scottish National in 1981 at Falkirk finishing 89th sandwiched between Sam Ian Graves 87th and a young Craig Ross 91st.
Mike, however, will best be remembered as the organiser of the Mill Lum 6-mile race around the Kinghorn golf course, a testing, hilly course.
Mike and family moved up to Banchory in the early 90’s where he played a major part in the growth of Banchory & Stonehaven AC. Daughters Catriona and Briony, who started athletics with Fife, represented Banchory with distinction, Briony going on to represent Edinburgh Univ. H & H and later HBT.
Mike moved to Kirkby Lonsdale a few years ago but sadly struggled with the effects of a brain tumour. Thanks for all your athletics service, Mike.
