Competitors in Scotland’s biggest hill race will be going in a completely different direction when Fife AC host the Devils Burdens Hill Relay on Saturday 9th February.
The popular event over the Lomond Hills has grown over the past ten years to see fields of over 600 athletes testing themselves over the four-stage race with two of the stages contested by paired runners.
Next February’s race sees an about face as the 20 mile route will be reversed with a single runner tackling the opening stage from the Falkland estate duck pond through Falkland Forest to Strathmiglo before paired runners battle the gruelling second stage over the West Lomond to Scotlandwell. A lone runner covers the penultimate stage from Scotlandwell to Holl Reservoir with paired athletes taking over for the final stage over the East Lomond to the finish at Falkland factory.
Fife AC athletes feature strongly in the East of Scotland line-up for this Saturday’s Scottish Inter-District Cross-Country Championships at Holyrood Park, Edinburgh. The Inter-District races feature on the televised Great Edinburgh Cross-Country programme featuring top international athletes. East under 13 champion Adam Scott, Kirkcaldy, and George Rees, Crail, represent the under 13’s team while Logan Rees represents the under 17 East squad. Jamie Ingledew, Camreon, represents East under 15’s.
Ana Brocklebank, Crail, features in the East under 15 girl’s team alongside Ailsa Cruickshanks, Lundin Links. Helen Sharpe returns from her Amsterdam work-base for the senior women’s team while Amie McKimmie also in the women’s team celebrates her first representative honours.
8-year old Harris Stewart won Fife AC’s Boxing Day handicap run at Beveridge Park, Kirkcaldy ahead of a field of 74 finishers.
The Dunnikier Primary School pupil completed the 1.33 mile road circuit in 11 minutes 51 seconds seventeen seconds of Cupar Fife AC junior Liam Wyse.
