FIFE AC CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS 1990
Fife AC athletes held their own club cross-country championships at Kemback last Saturday. Starting from the school field the younger age groups ascended the Kemback steps before a steep descent and back to the finish on the field. Junior boys Russell McFarlane and Ian Wallace crossed the line together while Clarisse Murray had a three second advantage over Lorraine Hughes.

The senior athletes completed two circuits of the field before heading up the steep footpath at the back of Kemback Church. It was at the top of the steep ascent that Dave McNichol, Leven, took a slight lead over Tony Martin, Ceres, and another Leven athlete, Bob Melville. With a muddy run in and then two circuits of Kemback Woods McNichol steadily increased his lead, yard by yard, to descend to the finish on Kemback school field 15 seconds clear of Martin and third placed Melville. Newburgh’s Tom Ross, 5th overall, won the veterans race with Joe Holden, Glenrothes, and Newburgh’s Pete Low second and third respectively.

Margaret Martin, Ceres, had a 38 second advantage over Kirkcaldy’s Margaret McLaren while Kim Macgregor, St Andrews, took the bronze medal position.

All the athletes and officials enjoyed the lavish tea and presentation with Fife AC club medals being awarded to the first three in each age category.
