Stuc a' Chroin Info

Unread post by Fife AC Admin »

For anyone planning to run Stuc a' Chroin, some info from the race organiser:

· Getting there

o If approaching Strathyre from the south, A84, Stirling, Edinburgh or Glasgow, please be aware that traffic through Callander can be horrendous on Bank Holiday Weekends, especially if the weather is good, and the extra traffic generated by the race does make a difference. Getting through Callander can add on a significant amount of time, and we have on occasion had to delay the start of the race. This obviously has a knock-on effect for the rest of the day. Please allow as much time as possible to get to the race, and add 30 – 60 minutes to your expected journey time if you haven’t already allowed for it.
o At the moment, we’re not aware of any roadworks or other planned traffic works that should impact on getting to the race. That’s not to say there won’t be any though!

· Registration

o Opening times (10-12:30). We’re opening Registration an extra half hour for those early birds who want to get in and settled before the rush.

o Registration Form. You can download the 2013 registration form from today (Sunday 28th April) from the web in both word and pdf formats.

Word http://www.stucachroin5000.org.uk/Stuc% ... 13_1w.docx)

PDF http://www.stucachroin5000.org.uk/Stuc% ... 013_1w.pdf

o Please remember to include your SA number or alternate body affiliation number to qualify for the SA championship.
o Entry is £7 this year. We should have plenty of change, but having the right money will help speed registration up.

o Please note that the race is run under UK Athletics rules and consequently, you should adhere to these rules especially regarding appropriate apparel and equipment for the conditions, which at the moment could be cool, wet, windy or all of these.

· The course

o For new runners to the race, the course is marked to the top and there are plenty of marshals and water stops.

o The Stuc a’ Chroin, Glen Ample and the surrounding hills are all active livestock areas and as such runners are urged not to attempt to bring any dogs onto the hill as permission will be refused. The Estate and their gamekeepers do a lot to help us out before, during and after the race, and so we ask you to respect their wishes.

o We’re marking up to the summit of the Stuc on Thursday, and will post an update to conditions on the hill on Thursday or Friday. See the web www.stucachroin5000.org.uk

· After the race

o If possible, can winners for the categories be available after the race for prize-giving which will be at approx. 16:30 on the field. Could we request also that if winners can’t be available for prize-giving, they inform a race official and possibly allocate a team member to pick up the prizes. There’s about £2,500 worth of prizes up for grabs this year.

o There’s a ceilidh after the race starting at 9 (See www.trossachs.co.uk for accommodation for anyone wanting to make a night of it). We’d love it if you’d join us.

Please forward this or any subsequent email from us to them for their information as you think fit.

We’re still hoping for great weather for the runners and the marshals, (optimism is giving way to blind faith!), but regardless, I’m sure it’ll be a great day and look forward to seeing you all.
