Latest version here.
Re: St Andrews 5km/Junior 1 mile RESULTS
Sometimes performances by older athletes gets lost among the results. This was certainly the case in respect of Carol Melville. As a 70 year old Carol's time of 25:53 had an age related percentage of 79.75. Even more remarkable it is the fastest time recorded in Britain this year for her age group. The previous best was 27:13.Those taking part will recognise the quality of her run in what were very testing conditions.

Excellent stuff Carole.
Unfortunately nobody's achievements were really recognised due to the lack of prizegiving on the night.
From way back in 6th place I didn't even know who'd won.
And it was only once home that I seen that amazing result from the V50 lady Fiona Matheson.
So I suppose there are two schools of thought here.
Because there was no prizegiving the competitors got to go home early and the folk who socialised got more cakes, more room and less queueing.
or
Because there was no prizegiving there was nothing to hang around for so competitors just left. The folk who socialised didn't know what else to do as there was no 'end of proceedings' as such and actually stayed around for ages. And there was a huge amount of cakes left going to waste.
As far as I could tell the only people it actually benefitted were the timekeeper as nearly all the marshalls and kitchen helpers and organisers were still around until the last of the socialisers (of which there were a lot fewer than usual) had left the hall. And as Graham says he had his own set of results all worked out (with the help of Sophie) by 8:30.
I got the impression when I was there that folk felt it was like hanging around for a bus that wasn't coming.
So did folks like getting away straight after the run?
or did they like socialising with no prizegiving?
or would they have preffered to socialise and have a prizegiving?
