Fife AC Midweek Series - Changes to the Prize Structure

Unread post by Brian Cruickshank »

The Endurance Group sub-committee have decided to change the prize structure for this year's Midweek Race Series. These changes take effect from the St Andrews 5k on Wednesday 17th April.

There will be NO indvidual race prizes at any of the series races. All prizes will be restricted to those runners who complete the points scoring criteria for the overall series which will be best 4 results from 5 races.

This will ease the pressure on the individual race organisers and results team on the night and allow a quicker online full results service to be provided.

We will be increasing the number of series prizes awarded and also increasing the value of those prizes. We anticipate that these changes will encourage participation and competition in the full series of midweek races.

Not having printed results available on the night was one thing but not having a prizegiving is just weird.

Can't really agree with what the person has said above.as far as my experience of fife ac has been, they are one of the best at organising things.most results appear online shortly after each event.i take it that guest does have an Internet connection or they wouldn't be able to post on website so perhaps it is thy who are behaving a bit weird.if you invest in a printer as well then hey presto!! You have a set of printed results. As Brian stated they are trying to get more people involved in the series not just one race hence no prizes but also they are one of the best clubs at charging low entry fees for races or would you rather they charged over £10 a race just so people could get some crap goody bag like other races I won't mention...cheers

The change makes the series into a race collection like the Tour of Fife where there are no individual prizes for each race and the results are on the web that night.

Nothing more annoying than anonymous 'guests' making uninformed comments. Sometimes the results are up on net before poeple get home !!!!

It appears to me the benefits of not having a prize giving after the race is that:- the organisers who are usually at the event hours before & after setting & tidying up can get away quickly. Results will be accurate not rushed which can lead to inaccuracies, runners don’t have to hang around waiting for a bottle of wine or box of chocolates, but will get bigger better prizes at the end of the series-which will reward the runners who make the effort to turn out for the whole series.

But we still get the after race buns & cakes. :)

'Weird' is one way of putting it.
Not having a prizegiving on the night will surely kill the moment somewhat. It would mean a great deal to some runners to achieve a prize winning finish in a summer series race and to not have that acknowledged on the night will be a shame. It may also mean that less folk will attend from other clubs as they know thet won't be in the prizes on the night and won't be able to attend the whole series so just won't bother. It may make the series very insular.
It's not just the prize winners that hang around for the beer and chocs either. Lots of folk hang around to see who done what and join in with the congratulations. They don't just hang around for the cakes. Hence when the prizes are done everyone goes home and not just when the food runs out.
If folk are hanging round socialising and eating then there's plenty time for the leading results to be worked out surely.
Oh and the club does have a printer but it has barely appeared over the last few years.
It's been a fine series for decades so why change the format? If it's to save money for bigger prizes then why not just give bigger prizes? It's not like Fife AC is short of funds.

I can quite easily recall one runner who always won his age category and never ever stayed behind to collect his prize. The post race tea/prizegiving is a social occasion when a club spread over a wide area can get to exchange news, etc.
As the person who wrote out the handwritten results for about twenty years, the mistakes were few and far between and if any...not life threatening.

PS...... PC results are much better, wouldn't like to go back to handwritten these days, by the time you got to cakes, the best had gone !!!

Maybe we could just give some small token prizes on the night to the first man/first lady/first boy/first girl as each crosses the finish line.

I still wouldn't win anything :i:
