Sandy Slither: Race Details & Registration

Unread post by BillF »

Details for Sandy Slither 2019
13th June 2019, 7:30pm

Registration

To avoid long queues at registration, anyone planning to do the race is asked to pre-register at https://tinyurl.com/y2tasugm. Pre-registration does not commit you to taking part or paying the registration fee. Payment should be made at registration on the day. Entry on the day will still be available. Entrants must be at least 15 years old.
The race fee is £4 for members of Scottish Athletics, £6 for others. Free to those under 18. £1 from each entry is donated to Tushinde Children’s Trust (http://tushinde.org.uk/).

Toilets will be open at Temple car park prior to the race.

Parking
Parking is limited (at both ends) and so please arrange to share transport where possible. Parking at the Temple carpark is very limited. There is another carpark 5 minutes walk away: approaching from Elie, follow the parking signs “Harbour (Free)”; this carpark is also easier to drive to and easier to leave.
Alternatively, the 95 bus leaves Elie High Street at 5:54pm and will drop you outside the Crusoe Hotel in Lower Largo at 6:14pm. A short walk eastwards along the road leads to the Temple car park – follow the Fife Coastal Path signs. Follow this link to bus times https://tiscon-maps-stagecoachbus.s3.am ... ife_95.pdf
Please do not park in front of the Ship Inn at Elie. Parking is available in Elie at the Admiralty Lane carpark (free) and at Elie Harbour Trust carpark (£).

Early start
There will be an early start (at 7:20pm approx.) for runners expecting to take more than 75 minutes to complete the race. This time has been increased to reduce the numbers in the early start - please consider carefully whether you need to join this start. Runners in the early start will not be eligible for prizes unless they are in the V70 (or older) age category.

Course notes
Marking and marshals are kept to a minimum and so please familiarise yourself with the route – there is a route map at http://www.fifeac.org/files/races/maps/ ... er_map.jpg.

At the end of The Temple (approx. 200m after the start), please use the steps on the right to get onto the beach.

The rocks on the first beach are likely to be slippery and so it is best to keep to the sandy part of the beach.

There will be a marshal at the stream crossing before the caravan park. You are likely to get at least one foot wet crossing the stream. Should the stream be running too strongly, you will be re-routed via the bridge a little upstream.

The route follows the private road through the caravan park: there may be vehicles on the road.

Take great care on the cliff path and descending the steps above Earlsferry golf course. The rocky steps can be slippery and partly overgrown.
Be aware when crossing the golf course that there may be golfers on the course.

Leaving Chapel Green Road at Earlsferry, the drop to Elie beach is quite long – there are stone steps a couple of metres to your left which avoid the drop.

Kit transport
SMALL kit bags can be transported from registration to Elie.

Finally
We hope you enjoy the race.

Pre-registration will close at 5pm on Wednesday 12 June. Runners can still enter on the day but if you are planning on racing it will help the registration and results team if you can register beforehand.

Thank you,

LouB
