Races and Juniors

Unread post by Fife AC Admin » Thu Dec 13, 2018 9:00 am

Looking forward to 2019, Fife AC has published a list of all the events the Club will be organising, with the dates. You can find the list here:

We look forward to seeing you throughout the year.

Please note that at ALL Fife AC events, there will be a minimum age limit. The minimum age will vary depending on the length of the race and whether it’s road, hill, trail etc. All Fife’s events have a license issued by Scottish Athletics. Part of the license application process requires us to state the minimum age accepted at the event. If younger athletes take part, the event no longer has any insurance. This is clearly an unacceptable situation. Scottish Athletics have also explained that younger athletes cannot run without registering or without being given a number, and also can’t just run along with a race. This would be considered the same as actually participating in the race. In addition, younger athletes cannot run with an adult chaperoning them as this would also be in breach of the license. It has been made clear that if Fife AC breaks the rules relating to licenses, it will be harder for us to get licenses for races in the future.

We don’t want juniors to be disappointed by coming to a race and not being allowed to enter so we’d be grateful if parents don’t bring their younger children to races expecting to compete.

What a pity, this seems unnecessarily draconian and so disappointing for our more than capable juniors and their parents who enjoy families running together. How does parkrun( so successful precisely because it's so family inclusive) manage to avoid this kind of strict ruling? Is there any way of clubs uniting to challenge this approach if the will is there?
