We’re looking for someone to volunteer to coach the athletics group at Bell Baxter High School’s Department of Additional Needs.
Fife AC has led the group for nearly two years, working with a small group of high school students, always under the supervision of a school teacher. We have paid for equipment for them to use and it is stored in the school.
This coached session gives them more opportunity to develop their skills and confidence with their peers and within a smaller group. The pupils then take part in Fife Disability Sport’s XC and T&F competitions, which is beneficial to them on many levels.
It’s very rewarding and satisfying coaching. You don’t need to be a qualified coach or teacher because there is always a school teacher present, but you will need to be PVG-ed. You need to be enthusiastic, flexible and patient.
There is one session a week during the school day in the school terms. The previous coach is no longer able to take the group and we'd love to find someone else to take over, as the pupils were very enthusiastic about their athletics.
