Six Fife AC junior athletes represented Scotland at the Home Countries/Home Countries schools International Cross-Country at a frozen Llandeilo, Wales.

Halina Rees lined up for Scotland’s junior women’s team in the Home Countries International placing 15th over the 5,400m course in 21 minutes 04 seconds. With Banchory athlete Rhona Auckland the winner in 19.10 and Kathryn Pennel (Pitreavie) 12th (20.46) the trio placed third team place behind England (11) and South of England (23).
The Home Countries Schools International on the same programme saw Scottish Schools champion Bruce Millar (Fife AC/Balwearie High) also claim a second place. The international men’s junior race featured a race within a race with Bruce representing Scottish Schools against Welsh Schools. Lloyd Heckler was first home for Welsh School timed at 24 minutes 33 seconds for the 7.2km course with Bruce close behind in 24.48 followed by Nathan Jones (Welsh Schools) in third – 24.54. Kirkcaldy athlete Bruce also had the distinction of beating all three under 20 Scottish representatives in the junior international.
In the Home Countries Schools International, Logan Rees represented the Scottish Inter Boy’s team placing 28th timed at 21 minutes 30 seconds for the 6km course. Logan’s result helped Scotland (82) to place third team behind England (46) and Wales (80).
Jamie Ingledew, Cameron, excelled for Scotland in the junior boy’s 4200m race finishing 22nd in 15 minutes 21 seconds. Adam Scott followed in 28th (16.07) and Tristan Rees 31st (16.26). Scotland (113) placed third as England won with 21 points, Ireland placed second with 81.
It was a day of distinction for the Rees family of Crail – three from the same family all representing Scotland on the same day.
In warmer climes Dundee member Neil Young led home the Fife runners on the annual race trip abroad, this year to the Lisbon Half Marathon. Neil placed 210th out of thousands of runners timed at 83 minutes. Over 60 Kirkcaldy veteran Crawford Mackie was the next Fife runner home in 955th timed at a commendable 96 minutes 16 seconds. Former Kirkcaldy athlete Johanna Paananen made the trip from Finland to team up with the Fife AC group and was the first female club runner home in 2 hours 3 minutes. Other results awaited.
My concerns re the above have been well documented over the years. I feel strongly that all members should have a chance to book/make their own arrangements to join in with this annual trip. Are we one club or not ? I've always said I wouldn't go myself but I defend the right of every FAC member to know.

Also in Spain over 50 veteran John Thomson competed at the European Masters Indoor Championships in San Sebastian,
John finished a close-up 5th place in his 1500m semi-final and qualified as one of the six fastest losers from the three heats in a time of 4 minutes 30.67 seconds.
John also contested the 800 metres finishing runner-up in his heat in 2 minutes 13.83 seconds which saw him advance to the semi-final where he finished last of the nine runners in 2:17.69. The 1500m final saw John finish 10th timed at 4 minutes 33.77 seconds. Abdellaoui Habib of France claimed the title in 4:25.53.
Nearer to home Andy Milne, Glenrothes, posted a personal best over 10km at the Jim Dingwall Memorial Round the Houses Race at Grangemouth clocking 40 minutes 14 seconds with Kirkcaldy veteran Colin Brown 114th (40.18). Kenneth McLeod finished 330th (47.51) and Harry Adamson 555th (57.45) out of 690 finishers.
Chris Russell retained his Prince of Darkness title for the sixth consecutive year winning the sixth and final race in the Nightmare Series last week.
The 3.5 mile romp from Ceres car-park, followed by two laps of Craighall Den, saw Chris clock a winning 21 minutes 20 seconds chased home by Craig Love (Dundee Hawkhill).
Jane Dunlop (Dundee RR) placed 17th overall, third female on the night but with enough points in the bag to retain her overall female title - the first occasion a woman has retained her title since Jocelyn Scott in 2006.
The participants enjoyed a lavish prize presentation along with stovies in the Ceres Inn. The series raised £200 for the Sensory Impairment charity.
