Sandy Slither, 27-June, Briefing Notes for runners
Posted: Sun Jun 17, 2018 3:26 pm
Some advance information about this year's Sandy Slither. In particular, note the change to the "normal" car parking arrangements this year. Thanks.
Parking at Lower Largo
Registration will be in Temple car park, Lower Largo, as usual but please DO NOT park in Temple car park. The car park is being used by contractors. There is another car park 5-10: approaching from Elie, follow the parking signs "Harbour (Free)". The walk from here to Temple car park takes 5-10 minutes.
Car parking space will still be limited and so please try to share vehicles.
Alternatively, the 95 bus leaves Elie High Street at 17:54 and will drop you off outside the Crusoe Hotel in Lower Largo at 18:14. A short walk along the road east leads to the Temple car park: follow the signs for the Fife Coastal Path.
If the parking situation changes, we will post a message here (ie. Bulletin board) closer to the race date.
The toilets in Temple car park will be open before the race.
Registration for the race will be in the Temple Car Park, as in previous years.
Early Start
There will be an early start, at approx 19:20, for runners expecting to take more than approx 70 minutes to complete the race.
Please inform the officials at Registration if you would like to be included in the early start.
Course Notes
Marking and marshals are kept to a minimum and so please familiarise yourself with the route if it is new to you. There is a route map on the Fife AC site.
At the end of the road (approx. 200m after the start) please use the steps on the right to get onto the first beach.
The rocks on the first beach are likely to be slippery and so it is best to keep to the sandy part of the beach.
There will be a marshall at the stream crossing before the caravan park. You are likely to get at least one foot wet crossing the stream. Should the stream be running too strongly, you will be re-routed via the bridge a little upstream.
The race route goes along the private road through the caravan park; there may be vehicles on the road.
Take great care on the cliff path and descending the steps above Earlsferry golf course. The rock steps can be slippery and are partly overgrown.
Leaving Earlsferry, the drop to Elie beach is quite long, however, there is a flight of small, stone steps a couple of metres to your left - use these if uncomfortable with the drop down to the beach on the direct route.
Kit Transport
As in previous years, there will be a vehicle available to transport small kit bags from registration to the finish.
We hope you enjoy the race.
Andy W, Lou B & Bill F.
