Black Rock 5 Results

Another busy weekend of racing began on Friday night at the Black Rock 5 race in Kinghorn.
A record field of just under 1100 and mild temperatures made the start cosy at the bottom of the road, with those wanting quick getaway finding themselves politely weaving through the crowds to find their start position.
From the gun, runners made their way up the first short steep road, along through the town, and down the hill towards the beach. After stepping down onto the beach through some soft sand and through a couple of streams, conditions under foot were pretty tough along the main stretch of sand; some describing it like corrugated iron (only slightly softer..!). On reaching the Black Rock, runners were greeted by the lone piper and great cheers from spectators as they waded through the water, which was ankle deep and shin deep for some!
On turning back towards Kinghorn, the combination of wet feet, tired legs, sand and a slight headwind made the second half pretty hard going. The long stretch of beach ahead can be taxing on the mind, however witnessing the massive stream of runners running to and from the Black Rock is quite overwhelming and such a delight to see.
On making their way along the beach, runners headed back onto the road, up the hill, and through the town towards the (famous!) finish where they made their final sprint up steep short sharp climb to be awarded with their beer and a banana.
With such a challenging and fun course; great organisation and fantastic atmosphere, it’s no surprise why this event is a sell out every year.
First Fife AC runner home and winning the race was Logan Rees in a time of 23:01, with Del Rae in 5th 24:07, Simon Anetts 8th 24:51, and Iain McWhinnie in 16th place in 25:58 - collecting the men’s first team prize.
