It was a weekend of distinction for Fife AC junior athletes as Adam Scott and Bruce Millar bagged an unprecedented two individual titles at the Scottish Schools Cross Country Championships at Irvine while St Leonard’s, St Andrews, claimed two team titles.

Adam Scott won the under 14 boys title for Balwearie in 11 minutes 59 seconds seven seconds clear of Michael Lowrie (St Ninians High, Giffnock). George Rees followed home in 5th (11.55) for St Leonards while Stuart Aitken placed 28th for Balwearie in 13 minutes 05 seconds. Ty Walker 80th and Dean Whitton 81st also competed for Balwearie. Abbie Steggles (Dunfermline High) finished 35th in the under 14 girls race.
Crail athlete Tristan Rees had his best run of the season placing 4th in the 14-16 boy’s championship leading St Leonard’s to the team title. Aiden Johnson (Douglas Acad.) took the title in 15 minutes 11 seconds with Tristan only another 15 seconds back missing out on individual bronze by a mere one second. Jamie Ingledew, Cameron, followed home a fabulous 5th clocking 15.33 with Ryan Brocklebank in 19th (16.22). St Leonard’s total 0f 69 points beat St Aloysius 86 and Jordanhill 99.
Ana Brocklebank placed 18th for St Leonard’s in the girl’s 14-16 race with Katy Aitken 45th for Balwearie.
More team gold came the way of St Leonard’s in the over 16 boy’s race where Logan Rees, Crail, placed a fine 7th followed by Fergus Ingledew in 22nd. Tom Cole placed 26th while Tom Harris placed 36th in his first appearance over the country this winter. St Leonard’s 86 points headed Williamwood High 122 and Strathallan 173.
Bruce Millar excelled to claim the senior boy’s title for Balwearie timed at 22 minutes 02 seconds twelve seconds clear of runner-up Andrew Clark (Williamwood). Euan Berry placed 16th for Viewforth clocking 24 minutes 36 seconds rounding of a day of distinction for Fife AC junior members.

Halina Rees and Helen Sharpe represented the East of Scotland at the UK Inter-Counties Cross-Country Championships at Birmingham last Saturday.
Halina lined up for East in the under 20 women’s 6km race placing 22nd in 22 minutes 19 seconds. European junior silver medallist Emelia Gorecka (Surrey), who has won seven UK Inter-Counties titles through the age groups, was a runaway winner in 19 minutes 41 seconds.
Helen travelled up from her Bristol work-base to finish 46th, second senior women’s counter for East in the senior 8km race timed at 29 minutes 33 seconds with the East team finishing fourth. English National champion Louise Damen (Hampshire) took the title in 26 minutes 58 seconds.

Having now moved up to the under 13 girls age group Sam McInnes, Ladeddie, won the under 13 prize at the Gartmorn Dam junior race near Alloa clocking 14 minutes 40 seconds for the 2 mile course. Sam placed second female overall behind under 16 athlete Eilidh Russell (Central AC) – 14.13.

Intrepid runners braved the wind and rain last Friday for the 5th race in the Nightmare Series at Tentsmuir Forest, Tayport.
Chris Russell maintained his place at the top of the points standings covering the 3.85 mile course along forest trails in 22 minutes 20 seconds forty-five seconds clear of runner-up Craig Love (Dundee Hawkhill).
Jane Dunlop (Dundee Road Runners) maintained her lead at the top of the female standings placing 11th overall timed at 228 minutes 45 seconds.

The final race in the Nightmare series takes place Wed. 20th March from Ceres, meet 7pm for 7.30pm start. Entry on the night £2 (includes stovies at Ceres Inn). HELP APPRECIATED ON THE NIGHT

Junior runners head for Heriot Watt University, Riccarton, this Sunday for the Scottish Junior Road Race Championships.

Recommended for slower runners and novices is this Sunday’s (17th) Errol Village 6km Fun Run starting at 1.30pm. Entries on the day at Errol Village Hall.

Amazing results from the Scottish Schools Cross Country Championships - well done everyone, very impressive!!

Congratulations to Adam, Jamie, Tristan, Logan and Bruce for their Scotland international call ups for the fixture v England, Wales + Ireland in Llandeilo, Carmathenshire on 23rd March.

Well done too to Steve Doig, coach of the two individual gold medallists at Irvine, and to Dave Francis, coach of 6 of the 8 St Leonards team gold medallists.
