Norman's Law and Emily Hill races 30th March

Unread post by mark harris »

The gorse is coming out so it must be time for a visit to Luthrie on Easter Saturday 30th March.

For full details see the web site page.

Dave Francis is organising the Emily Hill junior race, which will start at 2pm.

2.30pm for the senior race. Entry is free to those who bring along food for the post-race tea.

I have a few volunteers already but I would like some more. Please post here or let me know (harrismark1@mac.com) if you can help.

Parking is always tight in the village so please try to car share if you can.

You'll now find that Scottish Athletics calendar has the correct date of the 30th.

Update on Thursday morning.

The forecast for Saturday is not awful and visibility should be fine. But there will be a cold wind and there will be snow for much of the course. We are recommending very strongly (but not insisting upon) carrying hats, gloves and full windproof body cover. You can put these in a bum bag or wear them. Hill studs would be very useful as well for extra grip.

There will be a marshal at the top (Bill who will have a telephone and emergency safety gear), and one, or possibly two, sweepers .

Soup, cakes and hot drinks will be waiting in the hall for you all.

Many thanks to those who have volunteered: Anna, Charlotte, Graham, Ron, Bill, Louise, Innes and Marie.

John and I will be in the hall from about 12pm for registration etc.

Very helpful summary of current conditions on Norman's Law from Joe Holden:

"Did a recce up the race route this morning and took a couple of pics etc.
All clear till you get to the top cottages then a couple of hundred mts of snow which is about 2/3 inches deep, but passable etc.
The rest of the track is wet muddy along to the style. and a little after that till you get to the open field
Then leading to the 1st gate is a mixture of snow/slush and mud, but after the gate its decent running (1 inch or so of snow) to the next gate.
The route from the gate to the summit is a mixture of shallow and deep snow between a couple of inches to 6/8 inches, but there is a few clear-ish patches but that would require a more zig-zag route.
The descent is not so problematic and should not cause to much difficulty, but any runner's out there that ran Carnethy 5 in the early nineties, (a lot more snow) should have no bother with this race."

The course will be marked to the top, but not beyond unless visibility is poor and it is snowing.
