Fife AC juniors claimed medals at the Scottish Junior Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Emirates Arena Glasgow last weekend.
Kirkcaldy junior Stephanie Pennycook, returning to competition following injury, took the silver medal in the under 20 woman’s 1500m timed at 4 minutes 58.77 seconds. The under 18 men’s race silver went to Bruce Millar, Kirkcaldy, who clocked 4 minutes 13.52 seconds following his heat win timed at 4:18.51.
Adam Scott, Kirkcaldy, followed up his third place at last weeks Scottish Cross Country Championships with third place in the under 14 boy’s 800m timed at a personal best 2 minutes 16.97 seconds.
It was a busy day for under 14 Tayport athlete Struan Christie 2nd in his 60m heat (8.34 seconds) progressing to the semi-final where he registered a personal best 8.18 seconds in 3rd place. Struan then duplicated that time in the final placing 4th. Struan’s reward came in the 60m hurdles, however where following 3rd place in his heat (10.28) he went on to finish 3rd in the final clocking a personal best 10.00 seconds.
Calum Mitchell, Kirkcaldy, made the final of the under 20 men’s 60m following 2nd place in his heat (7.41) and 3rd place in the semi-final (7.42) before 6th place in the final with 7.37 seconds.
Jack Robb, Glenrothes, was another Fife finalist in the under 20 men’s 400m winning his heat in 52.43 seconds. Jack then won his semi-final in 52.79 seconds before just missing out on the medal positions in the final finishing 4th in a fast 51.97 seconds.
Other results include: Under 20 Women. 800m heat 6th Kerry Gibson 2:48.71. Under 20 Men. 400m heat 6th Cameron Thomson 58.68. 1500m final. 9th Euan Berry 4:19.28. Under 18 Men. 800m ht. 5th James Pennycook 2:10.22, 4th ht Matthew Robb 2:10.47.
Under 16 Boys. 60m ht. 4th Euan Mitchell 8.32. Under 14 boys. 200m ht. 5th Ty Walker 29.86. Under 14 Girls. 800m final 7th Abbie Steggles 2:44.30 (ht 4th – 2:41.43). 4th ht. Louise McCullagh 2:49.92.
Seven Fife AC members contested the Arbroath Smokies Women’s 10 Mile Road Race with Sandie Kennedy, Leuchars, the first Fife runner home 78th out of the 315 finisher in 82 minutes 24 seconds. Also - 125 Sharon Cobain 87.55, 136 Wendy Ritchie 88.53, 163 Val Herkes 90.15, 166 Sandra Mitchell 98.51, 247 Anne Whiteford 98.51, 248 Fiona McColl 98.53.
Kirkcaldy runner Derek Adamson was a lone Fife athlete at the Lasswade 10 Mile Road Race last Sunday completed in 86 minutes 48 seconds.
Crail athlete Mark Harris retuned to competition following a broken collar bone to win last Sunday’s Bishophill Race at Scotlandwell. Over 40 veteran Mark finished ahead of Scottish junior internationalist Jamie Crowe (Dundee Hawkhill) while Fife junior Logan Rees claimed third place.

Up north Kingskettle over 70 athlete George Black prepared for this weekends UK Duathlon Championships at Leicester contesting the Aboyne Duathlon. (4.3km run/ 15.1km bike/ 4.3km run). George p[lace 46th overall, first over 70 in an age group course record of 69 minutes 14 seconds.
Elsewhere Megan Crawford finished 5th female at the Glasgow University 5 Mile Road Race at Garscube clocking 30 minutes 08 seconds while Keith Taylor placed 4th overall at the Buchlyvie 10km Race timed at 38 minutes 33 seconds.
The annual Cupar 5 Mile Road Race last Saturday suffered cancellation due to the dangerous condition of St Mary’s Road.

The Nightmare #5 Race takes place this Friday 8th over a trail in Tentsmuir Forest, Tayport. Meet at car-park Links road North at 7pm for 7.30pm start.
The final Nightmare Race of the winter will be at Ceres on Wed. 20th March starting at 7.30pm. Meet Ceres car-park. Stovies served in Ceres Inn post-race.

Fife AC athletes claimed one silver, one bronze and team bronze at the Scottish National Cross-Country Championships at Callendar Park, Falkirk last Saturday.
The clubs first medal success came in the opening race of the day, the under 13 boy’s 3.2km race where Kirkcaldy junior Adam Scott finished third behind Ryan Gray (Inverclyde) and Aiden Johnson (Victoria Park Glasgow). Adam clocked 12 minutes 52 seconds, leading the Fife team of George Rees 17th, Stuart Aitken 46th and Craig Morris 52nd to fourth team place. Adam’s winter season has seen him win the East of Scotland title, finish second in the Scottish Inter-District Championships as well as posting three East League victories before Saturday’s National bronze medal.
Under 20 junior athlete Halina Rees, Crail, gained further success for the club taking the individual silver medal in the under 20 women’s 4.8km race. GB under 20 internationalist Rhona Auckland (Edinburgh University), winner of the Scottish senior 4km cross-country title last November, pulled away to victory over the closing stages of the race (16.45) while Halina overhauled Cambuslang’s Alex Lamond in the final stages to register 17 minutes 12 seconds. Further podium success came as Halina’s 2nd was backed up by Jennifer Cruickshanks, Lundin Links, 16th place and Laura Gibson’s, Kinross, 22nd to give Fife bronze team medals.
The ever-reliable Helen Sharpe, having travelled up from her work-base in Bristol, placed 12th in the senior women’s race leading Fife AC to fifth team place. Megan Crawford, Edinburgh, showed improved form to place 21st while Amie McKimmie, Dundee, was delighted placing inside the top fifty at 46th. Fiona Bracegirdle, Gauldry, closed in the team scoring finishing 78th.
Both Zach Delaney, Cellardyke, and Logan Rees, Crail, achieved commendable 18th places in their respective under 20 men’s and under 17 men’s races while Jamie Ingledew, Cameron, excelled to place 13th in the under 15 boy’s race.
