Kingdom Match 4 report

Unread post by lesley thirkell »

The Youth Development League Northern Premier Division Match 4 was held at York University Sports Arena yesterday. It was another great day of athletics where Kingdom Athletic finished in 3rd place behind Team Edinburgh and Team Glasgow and ahead of City of York, Leeds City and Gateshead in that order.
We saw some outstanding performances from the team. Euan Boyle stepped up an age group to win the U20 B string 400m in a new personal best of 50.89s. He also won the U17 B string. In the 3000m Robert Sparkes won the U17 A race with 9.16.23 (pb) and Craig Morris was 2nd in the B string with 10.04.25. Robert also won the 1500m steeplechase to go top of the Scottish U16 rankings with 4.47.4. New team member Greg Williamson was a great addition to the team. He won the U17 B string high jump in 1.65 and despite never having held a javelin before, threw 19.16m for 3rd in the B string. Annabel Simpson had an excellent day where she was 2nd in the U20 800m with a time of 2.20.4 and won the 1500m with a time of 4.44.60 and finally also winning the 3000m (the women’s 3K times weren’t given on the results sheets). Katy Aitken ran in both the U20 1500m and 3000m where she was 1st in the 1500m with a time of 5.39.85 and also 1st in the 3000m B string. Louise McCullough ran the 800m where she was 3rd A string with 2.35.12 and was also 2nd in the U17 3000, A string. The Women’s under 17 4x100m quartet of Phoebe Moncur, Niamh Robertson, Louise McCullough and Bethany McAndrew were 4th with 53.29s. . The Men’s under 17 4x400m quartet were dominant winners, the quartet of James Adam, Craig Dunlop, Euan Boyle, and Ben Grant and won in a time of 3:34.66.
Overall Kingdom Athletic finished third for the season, our highest ever placing. Congratulations to all the athletes who took part over the four matches. They are a pleasure to travel with and should all be proud of their achievements. Many thanks to all the coaches, who have been so supportive during the season, and to the parents for all their help.
