Fife AC athletes starred representing the East of Scotland at the BBC televised Great Edinburgh Cross-Country last Saturday incorporating the Scottish Inter-District Championships.
The club supporters didn’t have long to wait for success as Kirkcaldy junior Adam Scott claimed the individual silver medal in the under 13 boy’s race, his best ever result over the country surpassing his East of Scotland victory last month. Crail athlete George Rees also excelled placing a fine 14th.
Jamie Ingledew, Cameron, followed up his fine performance at the Portobello 4 mile Promethon on New Years Day with 14th in the under 15 boys race. Ailsa Cruickshanks, Lundin Links, worked her way steadily through the field to place 20th for East in the under 15 girls championship followed by Ana Brocklebank, Crail, in 27th.
Logan Rees’ under 17 Inter-District race was part of a lager cast of international runners featuring under 20 athletes representing Great Britain, USA and Team Europe. The Crail runner had a tremendous run in the star studded field to finish 35th.
East of Scotland champion Robbie Simpson (East/Deeside R.) continued his top form winning the Scottish Inter-District men’s 8km title while Elspeth Curran (West/Kilbarchan) was a runaway winner of the women’s Inter-District title over 6km. Gillian Palmer placed second for East holding off the challenge of Helen Sharpe in third. Helen has regularly travelled from her Amsterdam base over the last two years to support her Fife AC colleagues; she will now have a 100m mile shorter flight to travel to future events re-locating to Bristol this week. A superb result for such a loyal club stalwart! A strong surge through the field saw Halina Rees place 11th representing Scottish Universities while Amie McKimmie gained her first ever representative honours for East placing 28th.
